The idea behind Bike hubs is to offer secure cycle storage to cyclists for a set amount of time and to encourage cycling as a preferred means of transport for socialising or shopping. This could be time spent in a hospitality area within a city or any leisure facility from sport, fitness to entertainment. Bike hubs are made up of a group of Bike hangars and each hangar holds up to two adult bikes, each Bike hub will have a different amount of Bike Hangars depending on location and requirements. What can it store?
There is enough floor space to store two standard size adult bikes and cycling gear, you can always pop back to put your shopping in and then relax when having coffee or lunch.
How to use?
After unlocking the door push your bike into the hangar, if two bikes are used top and tail bikes. Instructions for use are on the inside of the hangar door.
Will my bike fit?
Bike hubs can hold two large adult bikes plus accessories.

How secure is the Bike hub?

Bike hubs are built and managed by BikeAway ltd who have been supplying secure cycle lockers for 25 years. When designing new products security is the key consideration within the structure and locking mechanisms. BikeAway has a vast knowledge of attack systems made on products and due to this has reached the highest level of security and reliability on all our products.

How secure is the locking system and how does it work?
BikeAway has designed the bespoke secure Smart lock fitted to each door (patent GB2594040). After the correct code is received by the Bike hubs app on the users smart phone at the start of the rental period, the hardened steel locking plate is released using an electronic solenoid activated via NFC (Near Field Communication) when the user smart phone is presented to the lock. Unlike Blue Tooth or Wi-Fi, it is impossible to copy the NFC signal. Using a combination of 1 in 10000 to open each lock, the 4-digit is allocated to the customers unique identifier and changes with every booking. To further improve the security the sequence of numbers is different on every hangar. The electronics within the unit are protected behind a hardened steel plate along with current surge protection to stop any overloading circuits operating the solenoid.

How to book
Download the Bike hubs app to register. You will need to enter basic information to complete a profile and will be sent a code by text to enter into the verification field before booking a timeslot. Any length of time from 15 minutes upwards can be booked. For bookings of over 6 hours, it is normally more cost effective to book for a full day. Bookings can also be backdated to the previous quarter of an hour, if required. Confirmation of the booking will be sent by email and the unlock code can be requested from the App at the beginning of your rental period which will be fed directly back to the app ready to unlock the hangar.

Always book enough time for your trip – it is important that sufficient time is allowed as you cannot extend a booking and there will be a late return penalty charge for late returns.

How is the lock powered?
The lock is powered by a solar panel situated on the roof and door. For indoor or enclosed storage areas mains power is used via an 18 volt transformer.
Why should I have to pay for secure cycle parking?
Simply put to cover the costs and make this parking solution self-funding and completely sustainable. The Bike hubs are designed to be secure and to pay a small charge to leave an expensive bike or bikes in a safe place is far better than dealing with a stolen or damaged bike. The rental system works using an App and a website which needs to be maintained and managed.
How to find a BikeHangar in your area
Download the Bike hubs app to your smart phone and select ‘Create your Booking’ to search hangar locations and availability. Hangars can be booked once you have completed registration.
What happens if I go over my booking time?
You must collect your bike on time as you will not be able to extend your stay. You will be fined £15 if you do not remove your bike by the allocated time and confirm in the Bike hubs app that you have ‘finished with locker’. If using in conjunction with local transport connections we recommend a whole day booking in case of transport delays. Always book enough time to cover your trip.

If you have any issues collecting your bike on time you must call the help desk on 01752 202116 before the end of the rental period.

How end your hangar booking

After removing all contents close the hangar door and ensure the lock plate is pushed up to secure the unit. Please press ‘Finish with Hangar’ on your App.this is essential to make it available for the next user and avoid a penalty fine being incurred.

BikeAway has the right to remove bikes from hangars if they have not been collected after the allocated timeslot.  BikeAway has the right to refuse persons who are repeatedly late for bike collections or misuse the system in any way. Bikes taken from lockers will be stored and owners notified of collection point.  BikeAway does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to your bike or personal belongings when using these hangars.

Conditions of Use

These Conditions set out the basis on which you can visit and use our website and services. Please read them carefully as they contain important information.

Bike Hangar, Rent a Hangar and Bike Hubs, and the associated apps and websites, are owned by BikeAway Ltd (Company registration number 4235572). If you want to ask us anything about these Conditions or have any comments or complaints on or about this website or these services, please contact us.

In these Conditions references to we, us and our, shall be references to Bike Hubs/Bike Hangars/BikeAway Limited. We may change these Conditions from time to time without notice to you and any changes will apply to subsequent bookings received.

  1. Responsibilities
    1. The Hangar is to be used solely for cycle parking and not for storage of any other items without prior agreement
    2. The Hangar must not be used by a third party at any time without the prior agreement of BikeAway Ltd
    3. The Hangar must be kept securely locked at ALL times with the drop plate in the up position.
    4. BikeAway may share details of bike hangar users with the hangar owners
    5. Neither Bikeaway Ltd nor the hangar owners accept any liability for bicycles or personal belongings damaged in or stolen from the hangar
    6. If a bike cannot be retrieved from a hangar by rental session end time, the hangar user must let Helpdesk know. Failure to do so may jeopardise the security of the bike
  2. Registering
    1. You will need to be registered with us to book a Bike Hub space. Download and register through the Bike Hubs app.
    2. You must provide a contact mobile telephone number and update us if this changes
    3. The email address provided upon registering must be accessible by the smart phone being used to access the locker. If this changes the user profile must be updated
    4. A unique user identifier will be allocated upon registration
    5. Additional identification may be required before access can be granted to a hangar at some locations
  3. Booking
    1. Bike Hangars can be booked at no less than 15 minute intervals. In some locations minimum booking times will be set at longer intervals
    2. Booking must be for total time required. Your booking time cannot be extended
    3. You are not able to use a Bike Hub space without a confirmed prior booking
    4. A hangar will be allocated at time of booking
    5. Only one hangar booking can be made by a user at any particular time. One session must have finished before another can be booked
    6. Additional identification may be required before access can be granted to a hangar at some locations
    7. Please ensure you have booked the hangar for the total time required: Late return will incur a fine of £15
    8. Once confirmed, a booking cannot be cancelled or amended
    9. A hangar cannot be accessed without the BikeHubs app which needs to be downloaded to a Smart phone.
    10. Misuse including late return may result in a penalty fine or exclusion from using bike hangars/hubs in the future
  4. Payments
    1. Full payment is required at time of booking and is non- refundable
    2. Payment due can differ according to location
    3. A 20 pence processing fee is applied to all bookings
    4. All payments must be made by card and are handled by Stripe
    5. Any penalty charge will be registered as a debit against the user identifier and added to the amount due
  5. App
    1. A Smart Phone minimum version for Android:11 IOS:12 is required to use the App
    2. The App must be downloaded to be able to open any hangar. This may need to be periodically updated to function correctly.
    3. The hangar access code must be requested from the app. It will be sent by email to the registered email address.
    4. The access code can only be requested from the app once the booking start time has been reached.
    5. App will need to be refreshed to display ongoing booking at session start time.

  7. Cancellations
    1. Once confirmed, a booking cannot be cancelled or amended
